Bathroom planning and design: how the new bathroom meets all requirements

The bathroom forms one of the most important rooms in the apartment - therefore, the design of the bathroom should not be neglected. However, many bathrooms are designed mainly for their function and therefore do not have much in common with a soothing oasis of calm. However, it is not so difficult to change something about it. Those planning a new bathroom, however, should definitely plan enough time for this project. After all, it is essential to be clear in advance about exactly what is desired so that the bathroom will still be pleasing and inviting for relaxing moments in the next 10 to 15 years. What to pay attention to in the planning and design of the bathroom in principle and which tips prove to be extremely helpful, explains the following article.

Sketch bathroom

In advance of the actual planning, a floor plan of the bathroom should be put on paper. Digitally, of course, this is also possible on the PC. Such a sketch makes it easy to see how much space is available and how it is ideally divided. Based on the sketch can also play with the many possibility, so that in the end the best option can be found.

Formulate requirements and wishes

With regard to bathroom planning or design, of course, it also depends on the requirements that the bathroom must meet in everyday life. These are influenced, for example, by the number of people who use the bathroom every day. After all, a single household needs far less storage space in the bathroom than a large family. Barrier-free access and appropriate WC and shower designs must be considered if disabled or elderly people live in the household. Now is also the right time to write a wish list. This contains all the things that the new bathroom should ideally have. Thus, the desired type of washbasin, faucets or shower can already be defined. Of course, more exclusive wishes can also be implemented with the appropriate space and budget, such as a steam bath or whirlpool tub.

Analyze lighting options

. Lighting also plays a crucial role in the bathroom. Thus, it should be decided as early as possible whether indirect or direct light is preferred and perhaps spot lighting can be installed above the vanity. The type of switching and options for dimming should also be considered in this context. In general, it is important to ensure that the face in the mirror is not shaded by unfavorable lighting.

Selecting tiles

. The selected tiles, of course, greatly affect the appearance of the bathroom. However, it is recommended - regardless of which tiles are finally selected in detail - to rely on models as discreet as possible. After all, over the years, personal tastes may well change, so that plainer models are advantageous.

Seek inspiration

If the own wishes and the spatial conditions have been extensively illuminated, the time has come to go in search of inspiration. This can take place both on the Internet and in magazines. Particularly contemporary are, for example, half-height installation walls for the washstand, which at the same time serve as a splashback for the shower or as a privacy screen. In addition, free-standing elements, such as free-standing bathtubs, are currently very much in vogue.

Focus on homeliness

. In the past, many people have focused their bathroom on its practicality and functionality. However, in recent years, bathrooms are increasingly transforming from a purely utilitarian space to a valuable retreat. Therefore, the topic of coziness should not be neglected in the bathroom either. This is ensured, for example, by natural materials such as cotton, linen or wood, pleasant lighting, muted and soft colors and aesthetic textiles. To create a homely ambience in the bathroom, seating, for example in the form of benches, is also extremely helpful. If a coherent color concept is chosen, visual tranquility can also enter the room. High-quality decorative elements, such as a mural, a beautiful bouquet of flowers or special soaps then become small but fine highlights of the furnishings, which fill the room with personality and set exciting accents. In addition, the feeling of well-being is also supported by pleasant, unobtrusive diffuser sticks or scented candles. Fig.: Karolina Grabowska/pexels.com
