Bathroom with sloping roof - tips for interior design

Just because the bathroom is placed in a room with slopes, it does not mean that it can not be conjured up a cozy and inviting attic bathroom. However, a prerequisite for this is careful planning and the appropriate fixtures. What to consider when furnishing a bathroom with a sloping roof and what trends can be perfectly implemented in it, shows the following article.

Preliminary considerations and planning

. Of course, bathrooms in the attic have certain difficulties. Therefore, during the planning process it is highly important to consider the individual details - after all, the bathtub, washbasin and shower can not always be placed in the place that is actually desired. With regard to planning, for example, the different heights of the room should be taken into account. In addition, look for advantages of the room, which should be particularly set in scene. Perhaps obstacles such as chimneys, roof beams or supporting columns should also be taken into account. A good idea is to make a scaled sketch of the future attic bathroom as a first step, on which different arrangement options are then tested. This makes it easy to discover unexpected design and usage options.

Skillfully positioning the washbasin

. The washbasin represents an essential factor for a practical and aesthetic bathroom. This includes both the sink and the surrounding lights and the mirror or mirror cabinet. Depending on the particular angles and the height of the sloping roof, in some cases the washing place can be planned quite under it. However, the distance between the ceiling and the head should still be at least 40 centimeters when standing. In order to ensure sufficient headroom and to be able to enjoy sufficient daylight, the place under the skylight is often particularly suitable for the washstand. The direction of view should then be aligned to the side of the window. In principle, asymmetrical washbasins with side storage surfaces or fittings are highly recommended to be placed under the sloping roof.

Find the right shower

. The full height of the room in the attic bathroom should definitely be reserved for the shower. The basic requirement for this represents a standing height of 2.30 meters, so that the washing of hair also succeeds without problems under the overhead shower. It is recommended to have the glass doors and shower walls for the bathroom in the attic made to measure. This will ensure that the doors and side walls are ideally adapted to the individual conditions. If the slope of the roof turns out to be too low, the shower can also be moved to the center of the room. In principle, the floor of the shower should be planned as flat as possible, so that the height to the top can be used in the best possible way. Showers that have swinging doors that open inward are especially ideal for very small bathrooms.

Discreet positioning of the toilet

. Finding the right place for the toilet is a major challenge in a bathroom with sloping ceilings. After all, this place also requires a good standing height of at least 1.90 meters, in addition, it should be as discreet as possible. Nowadays, the toilet is often moved to a separate room for this reason. However, if the toilet must - or should - be located in the main bathroom, the space below the skylight is recommended for it, as bad odors can be removed more quickly and the ceiling height is also a little more generous.

From the bathtub to look at the stars

. Above all, the statics are decisive for whether the attic bathroom can be equipped with a bathtub. After all, the floor slab underneath must be able to support the bathtub filled with water in the future. If the statics are sufficient, the bathtub represents a great luxury in the attic bathroom, after all, from it - assuming the correct positioning - you can look directly into the starry sky. In addition, the bathtub does not have great demands on the height of the room. The ceiling only needs to be high enough in the middle of the bathtub to allow easy entry and exit. However, if the bathtub is also to take a shower, it is necessary to take into account the already mentioned height requirements for the stand shower.

Establish storage space in niches and corners

. If all the walls are occupied by the mirror, toilet, washbasin and shower, the possibilities for storage space in the attic bathroom often turn out to be limited. So here it is necessary to get creative, especially if there are very deep roof slopes. For example, pre-wall elements, niches in walls and hollow spaces are ideal for storing smaller bathroom utensils such as cosmetics or towels. Shelves, compartments and low cabinets are also recommended for bathrooms under the roof. In addition, mobile containers can be used both as a seat and as storage space, and they can be easily moved as needed. Under the window, benches and custom-made shelves and cabinets form a good option for neatly storing other items.

Few joints and light wall colors

. Wall design in the form of tiles and wall color greatly affects the ambience in the bathroom. For sloping ceilings, the general rule is that they should not be designed too dark, because the ceiling is visually pushed down by the dark shades. The bathroom, on the other hand, is visually opened up by light shades of blue and gray, as well as shades such as cream and white, so that it looks much larger. With regard to the choice of tiles, it is recommended to choose them as large as possible, so that the mural appears larger and calmer. If possible, the roof slope should not be tiled, unless it is located in the direct splash water area. Modern decorative panels form a contemporary alternative to the tiles and allow a seamless bathroom design, which is currently particularly trendy.

The right lighting

The right light also plays an essential role for a good sense of space and a perfect view. After all, the bathroom tends to be visited during the darker times of the day, which is why it makes sense to let as much daylight as possible into the bathroom through the windows. In the field of artificial lighting, the light sources should definitely be chosen wisely. The focus is not only on design aspects, but also on the purpose of the bathroom lighting. The basic lighting should ensure that the bathroom is illuminated as a whole, so that it is possible to move safely at dark times of the day. Luminaires whose light is cast downwards, such as ceiling or wall lights, are particularly well suited for this purpose. Special lighting must then be selected for individual tasks, such as vanity lighting or shower lighting. Once all the necessary lamps are distributed in the bathroom, further decorative lighting accents can be set, for example, on the sloping roof. Fig: jeanvdmeulen/pixabay.com
